Assistant SENCO (Maternity Cover)
Location
Harris Academy Greenwich, London.
Salary / Hours
£39,744.13 per year (37.5 hours per week, 42 weeks per year).
Key Responsibilities
* Implement and deliver an appropriate, broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students and support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
* Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher/form tutor.
* Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
* Contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
* Share and support the academy’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
* Operational and strategic planning: lesson planning, developing resources and syllabuses, contributing to departmental plan.
* Curriculum planning.
* Staff development: continuing professional development, engaging in performance management review.
* Quality assurance: monitoring and evaluating the subject area.
* Information management: maintaining records and tracking student progress.
* Communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
* Pastoral system: acting as a form tutor to a selected group of students.
* Teaching: ensuring a high quality learning experience for students.
Qualifications & Experience
* Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
* Successful teaching experience at secondary level (including experience in multi‑ethnic urban schools).
* Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and ability to write lesson plans, develop resources and assess students’ work.
* Understanding of effective teaching and learning practices; high expectations and equality of access for all students.
* Good ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive whiteboards.
* Ability to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students.
* Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to communicate positively with parents, carers and external agencies.
* Ability to lead and manage own work effectively; excellent time‑management skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team and develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff.
Additional Information
The role is non‑teaching for the Assistant SENCO position; however, the responsibilities largely overlap with teaching duties. Flexible working arrangements are available.
