The Role
To lead the pharmacy service to our surgical and theatres directorates. You will become an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team ensuring that patients receive high quality pharmaceutical care within the ICU and surgical ward environment. You will support the education and training of other pharmacy professionals to contribute to patient care. You will be an educational supervisor and collaborator for pharmacy undergraduates, trainees and pharmacists undertaking their RPS foundation or advanced core training.
Additional Information Specific to the Role
1. University Hospital Monklands currently hosts a variety of surgical specialities including Lanarkshires inpatient services for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and urology. As a post-holder you would be a key member of the hospital Nutritional Support Team, leading on prescribing parenteral nutrition throughout the hospital.
2. It is an exciting time in NHS Lanarkshire with expanding roles for the pharmacy team. The post holder will lead on the introduction of pharmacist led pre-assessment clinics and take part in INSPIRE clinics alongside members of the surgical MDT.
3. Shift pattern - Monday to Friday - 08:30 17:00 over 9days.
4. The Highly Specialist Clinical Pharmacist will be required to lead, develop, deliver and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to the surgical and theatres directorate in accordance with the objectives set between the on-site Hospital Pharmacy Manager and the Principal Clinical /Deputy Pharmacy Manager. To act as a role model and provide a consistently high-quality pharmaceutical service.
Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
In this key role, you will:
To lead clinical pharmacy services for patients admitted to, or treated within, area of responsibility in accordance with the priorities set by the post holder, Hospital Pharmacy Manager, Lead Pharmacist Primary Care or Lead Pharmacist Advanced Clinical Services, and Clinical Director in order to ensure safe, effective and cost efficient use of medicines in these patients.
To deliver pharmaceutical care, as defined above, to the specified patient population or directorate/clinical specialty.
To identify and promote best practice in relation to medicines use and treatment.
To ensure delivery of clinical governance agenda in relation to drug use in the specified patient population or directorate/clinical specialty.
To motivate and inspire others both within pharmacy and the directorate/clinical specialty.
To proactively develop clinical pharmacy services in line with local and national objectives within area of expertise
What You'll Bring:
Masters degree in Pharmacy
Registered to practice with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Continuing Professional Development as detailed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (mandatory requirement)
Ability to monitor patient therapeutic regimens to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity.
Previous experience in delivering training and education at post-graduate level.
Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice.
Demonstrate advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement.
Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work to deadlines and manage resources
