The Role


The successful candidate will lead a team of specialist market leading claims adjusters in the Hiscox Reinsurance claims team dealing with claims arising out of the Reinsurance Business Unit which consists of business written in both London and Bermuda. This person will also work closely with both the Reinsurance Leadership Team and Group Claims Leadership Team.

We are looking for a high calibre claims manager possessing strong, strategic leadership skills and established technical abilities. Prior claims management in the London Market and technical reinsurance knowledge is a prerequisite. Sound commercial and intellectual skills are also required to lead and direct a broad range of technical and legal challenges; specifically, the candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to manage complex technical and legal issues and be able to make sound decisions and/or report to very senior management within Hiscox.

What you’ll be doing in the role

1. Leading, motivating and developing a market leading team of high performing and specialist claims professionals.
2. Ensuring the Claims, Underwriting and Actuarial teams are fully aligned on claims reserving decisions.
3. Ensuring the claims offering and underwriting intentions are fully aligned.
4. Serve as an experienced point of reference for your claims team adding insight, a second pair of eyes and authority where necessary.
5. Contributing to the strategic development of the Reinsurance claims team in line with our core Claims strategy and vision.
6. Monitoring the development of key reporting metrics and responding accordingly.
7. Co-ordinating monthly and quarterly reserving meetings including Cat, Margin and IBNR processes.
8. Internal reporting regarding the claims portfolio and large losses to senior management.
9. Promoting and delivering a continuous improvement culture within the Claims function to deliver a superior service to our policyholders.
10. Managing experts and third party service providers to ensure a high level of service.
11. Representing the Claims function in front of brokers and policyholders.

The Candidate

12. Significant people management and leadership experience.
13. Strong operational skills, including both business process and systems.
14. Strong claims legal experience and an ability to analyse legal issues in different jurisdictions.
15. Ability to exercise sound commercial judgment.
16. Demonstrable experience of leading a team in a constantly changing and fast paced environment.
17. Possess a high degree of confidence and maturity with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels, including senior management.
18. Ability to translate strategic thinking into tangible plans and delivery to drive the business to achieve its agreed goals
19. Good financial acumen and intuition, with an ability to handle large and complex issues and data.
20. Highly results driven, with the energy and determination to succeed in an environment where the pace and quality of response and leadership is critical to success.
21. Nice to have - a qualified lawyer, ACII qualified or equivalent qualifications/experience together with Bermuda experience.

Our must haves

22. Significant experience in the London Lloyds Insurance market.
23. Proven track record and experience in claims leadership role.
