Overview
We are a growing multi-national food wholesaler looking to recruit a Transport Team Manager to work in our Distribution Centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
Reporting to the Transport Operations Manager, this role requires someone capable of working under pressure, with a good analytical approach to deliver business results and achieve performance and service levels. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Manager with a transport background. Candidates will require some team supervisory and people management experience. Working within a team environment, the successful candidate will work to achieve operational KPIs to tight deadlines and drive improvements by engaging the team in promoting a positive culture.
There is a need for flexibility as the successful candidate may be required to work on a 5 from 7 basis. Hours of work will be predominantly nights, but flexibility of hours is required with operational needs and may include weekend working.
Please note that all candidates will have to undertake a drug and alcohol test as part of the pre-employment tests.
Responsibilities
* The efficient operation of your day-to-day shift.
* Maximise productivity and quality through monitoring, encouraging and supporting the drivers and clerical team.
* Ensure effective use of all available resources, working based on continual improvement and cost-down.
* Ensure KPI’s are met.
* Monitor and control absence.
* Ensure effective communications both internally in Transport department, within the Distribution Centre and with Customers including Supply Chain and branches.
* Identify training needs and design/implement training plans.
* Challenge under performance and recognise good performance in equal measure.
* Conduct disciplinary and absence hearings effectively when required.
* Conduct appraisal reviews for the colleagues within your team.
Qualifications and Skills
* Previous experience within a Transport operation is essential.
* Excellent people management skills together with the ability to plan resource and report KPI information with accuracy.
* A good understanding of multi-temperature warehouse/transport procedures and compliance, with high initiative, focus and flexibility.
* Commitment and ability to work under pressure.
* Excellent people management skills and the ability to develop self and others.
* Experience applying knowledge of relevant legislation (Health & Safety, Employment Law, Discrimination, etc.).
* A good understanding of Transport Legislation and the impact of non-compliance to protect the company Operator Licence.

* Ability to plan labour and resources to deliver operational requirements to a timely manner while meeting KPI’s and Service Levels.
* Effective team worker and confident, positive communicator.
* PC literacy in Excel and Word.
* CPC qualification is preferred but not essential.
