South West Water keeps the South West flowing with safe, reliable drinking water and wastewater services.
We’re looking for a Plumbing Compliance Assessor to join our Water Regulations team, covering the Cornwall area. This is a field‑based role with flexible base location, as long as you effectively cover the region.
You’ll play a vital role in protecting public health, ensuring water quality, and helping customers comply with statutory water regulations. The role offers a progression scheme to increase earnings as you develop experience, capability and qualifications.
What you’ll be doing:
* Inspect domestic and commercial plumbing installations to ensure compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999
* Identify, investigate and take appropriate action where non‑compliance or contamination risks are found
* Issue and record enforcement notices using specialist systems and corporate databases
* Maintain accurate records, work orders, diary entries and appointment details in line with service standards
* Provide technical advice and guidance to customers, colleagues and external stakeholders
* Respond effectively to suspected or actual contamination incidents
* Work safely at all times, following health, safety and company procedures
* Support the wider Regulations team and cover for the Team Manager when required
* Keep up to date with changes in legislation, plumbing practices and regulation enforcement
* Complete relevant training, including working towards an NVQ Level 3 in Regulations Enforcement

Essential requirements:
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
* Strong planning and organisational skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and plans
* Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
* Full UK driving licence
* A customer‑focused, methodical and safety‑conscious approach
Desirable:
* Plumbing qualification or background in plumbing / allied trades
* Water Regulations or plumbing qualifications (desirable, but we’ll support you to develop in the role)
* Previous experience working independently in a field‑based role
