Position Overview
The role sits within the Modelling and Analysis team in the Trading and Optimisation function of SEUK. You will provide in-depth analysis on the markets SEUK operates in (power, gas, carbon, NESO ancillary services) and on the performance of our assets. Your insights will inform decisions on optimising SEUK’s generation assets within the GB energy markets.
We are seeking an inquisitive, detail-focused team player with a “right first time” mindset and a drive for continual improvement. You will be supported by a mentor to develop your understanding of traded markets and analytical techniques.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
* Provide and present daily analysis and insights on wholesale traded energy and ancillary services markets and their drivers, including analysis of competitor pricing and strategies.
* Work alongside the trading team, actively contributing recommendations and challenging daily trading strategies.
* Maintain and develop dashboards and tools for position and performance reporting.
* Perform ad hoc quantitative analysis and model development to support trading and business decisions.
* Keep abreast of regulatory developments within the energy sector.
* Support shift traders with routine tasks and analysis when required by market activity. This may involve changes to working hours or shift work, with appropriate remuneration.
* Potential to move into a shift trading role in the future.
* Collaborate with colleagues across Trading and Optimisation as well as Finance, Risk, Commercial, Operations, Strategy and others to deliver optimal outcomes for Sembcorp.
Essential
Skills and Experience
* Degree qualification with a strong academic record in a relevant quantitative discipline (e.g., mathematics, engineering, physics, finance, economics).
* Enthusiasm to learn about the UK energy markets.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Clear communication ability.
* Demonstrable attention to detail.
* Ability to problem solve.
Desirable
* Some experience of the GB power and gas markets (full on-the-job training will be provided).
* Experience in model development, quantitative analysis and analysing large datasets.
* Programming knowledge/skills (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python).
