An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experience SHCSW to join the Dr Gray’s Senior Healthcare Support Worker and Phlebotomy Team at Dr Gray’s Hospital.
The service currently has a vacancy for 37 hours per week.
Applications are welcomed from experienced HCSWs with a willingness to work dynamically and support ever-changing services at Dr Gray’s Hospital.
The current Phlebotomy Team deliver a 7 day week service 7-3pm Monday- Sunday and support the venesection clinics on a Tuesday and Thursday every week 12-5pm.
This role will play a crucial part in providing an essential frontline service for NHS Grampian and support patient care delivery within the Dr Gray’s Hospital.
The postholder will assist the medical and nursing staff by performing venepuncture (blood collection) on patients in the hospital on a scheduled morning round, with exceptions for supporting teams with retrieving and delivering urgent bloods and cannulation if required in the afternoon. In addition, the postholder will be supported to learn and develop and incorporate their skills to deliver a twice weekly venesection service to outpatients, involving lone working, and administrative tasks on a staff rotation basis. On occasions, the postholder may be required to support clinical areas with direct patient care to support teams and colleagues to deliver safe and effective care whilst experiencing increased operational pressures, when the service can allow this.
The potholder must have excellent interpersonal skills, communicate well, both written and verbal, be able to work under some pressure, be able to prioritise their workload effectively and have previous experience working within an acute clinical setting.
