Overview
Applied Principal Psychologist Band 8B role at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Based in Wolverhampton; potential requirement to move base to other adult community mental health localities in the future. This is a leadership role within the Psychology team of the Wolverhampton adult Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).
The post holder will be supported and clinically supervised by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and will develop multidisciplinary understanding of psychological approaches to mental health recovery, provide supervision, consultancy, and training, and lead strategic and service development initiatives in collaboration with the Wolverhampton North CMHT.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention for clients with highly complex conditions, including risk assessment and management.
* Lead and supervise Trainee Applied Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists; supervise Band 7 and 8a Psychologists; line manage Assistant Psychologists.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate psychological therapies and care plans; contribute to MDT care planning and governance.
* Offer clinical supervision, training, consultancy, and development for multidisciplinary colleagues; support student placements and training activity.
* Collaborate with NHS, social inclusion, and voluntary sector partners; engage in service redesign, quality improvement, and research projects.
* Support trauma-informed care and evidence-based therapies for trauma, personality disorder, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and related presentations; involvement with DBT pathway may be available.
* Participate in service evaluation, audits, and project delivery across MDTs; monitor outcomes and lead on specific initiatives in agreement with professional leads.
* Lead on multi-disciplinary development and training to embed psychologically informed practice across services.
Person Specification
Essential
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or equivalent) as accredited by the BPS, including psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more therapies, and lifespan development.
* Post-doctoral training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
* HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status; trained in clinical supervision of doctoral trainees.
* Evidence of continuing professional development; experience as a qualified applied psychologist across diverse client groups and settings; full clinical responsibility within a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in liaison with statutory, voluntary, and private sector agencies; involvement in teaching, training, consultancy, and supervision; engagement in research and quality/service improvement.
* Ability to communicate highly complex information effectively; ability to adapt evidence base to client groups; ability to work flexibly in a team; ability to work independently and take initiative.
* Commitment to continual quality and service improvement; self-awareness and openness to supervision; compassionate and inclusive approach to clients and staff.
Desirable
* Registration with BPS; project management experience.
