Interim Head of Clinical Governance
Contract: 3–6 months
Day rate: £400-450 Inside IR35
Location: Hybrid with occasion travel to Surrey
We are recruiting an Interim Head of Clinical Governance for a leading independent healthcare organisation delivering diagnostic services. This is a senior interim leadership role, created to stabilise and strengthen a recently restructured clinical governance function. The organisation is seeking an experienced clinical governance leader who can quickly “steady the ship”, upskill the team, and embed robust, proportionate processes for incidents, complaints, audits and investigations.
The role
You will provide hands-on leadership to a multidisciplinary clinical governance team during a period of transition. Your focus will be on people leadership, change management and establishing effective governance frameworks that support safe, high-quality patient care.
Key responsibilities
* Provide overall oversight of the clinical risk and governance framework, ensuring alignment with best practice and clear reporting of trends, themes and learning to senior leadership and the Board
* Lead and manage change across clinical governance activities, including improvements to incident reporting, serious incident investigations and clinical complaints handling
* Line manage Clinical Governance Managers, Administrators and wider team members, with a strong emphasis on coaching, development and capability-building
* Establish clear, risk-based processes to differentiate and manage incidents and investigations appropriately
* Oversee clinical audit strategy, appraisal and revalidation governance, and clinical policy development
* Provide assurance to the Executive Team on all aspects of clinical governance during the interim period
What we’re looking for
* Significant experience in clinical governance leadership, you must bring experience working in a private healthcare provider
* Strong people management and development capability, with experience leading unsettled or newly formed teams
* Proven change management skills, including embedding new processes at pace
* Experience overseeing serious incident investigations and clinical complaints
* Confident communicator, able to engage credibly with clinicians, senior executives and boards
* Comfortable working in a corporate / private healthcare environment (private sector experience preferred but not essential)
