Offer description

Overview of the posts

The University of Manchester invites applications for two Research Associate posts in Health Economics. These positions offer the opportunity to contribute to work exploring inequalities in healthcare access for patients with mental health conditions, examining the interface between informal and formal care as well as other work relating to the economic sustainability of the health and care sector in Greater Manchester and beyond. Both posts are available for 12 months in the first instance.

You will join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers at the University of Manchester contributing to various projects funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). For the first post you will work on a project on inequalities in primary care for patients with mental health conditions. The second post will focus on a project examining how informal caregiving impacts on formal care usage. Both posts will involve working with colleagues in the Economic Sustainability theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration in Greater Manchester (ARC-GM).

Both roles will involve managing large datasets and applying a combination of econometric and micro-economic techniques, contributing to collaborative research and the production of papers published in scientific journals.

These are full-time posts and the post-holders will be based at the University of Manchester campus on Oxford Road, with the option of hybrid working.

You will need an excellent (or predicted excellent) master's degree in economics, health economics or a similar discipline, with a substantial quantitative element. You will also need to demonstrate understanding of microeconomics, health economics, and micro-econometrics or advanced statistics for applied health research. Experience of managing and analysing survey data and a working knowledge of Stata and/or R are essential. Knowledge of the English health and social care system and knowledge of health research are desirable.

The successful applicant will work closely with: Dr Doriane Mignon, Research Fellow, and Dr Luke Munford, Senior Lecturer for post 1 and Dr Sean Urwin, Research Fellow, and Prof Matt Sutton, Professor for post 2.

The post holders will be part of the Health Organisation, Policy and Economics (HOPE) research group in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care within the School of Health Sciences.

What you will get in return:
