Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Network Engineer to join the Infrastructure team within the Unified Communications Division at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Infrastructure team have a broad role in enabling communication across the hospitals, providing telephony, mobile and unified communications services along with supporting IT services for our highly regarded hospitals.
The Junior Network Engineer will provide on‑site support for Unified Communications systems, ensuring a full range of telephony services – TDM, VoIP, voicemail, call logging, IVR, Contact Centre solutions, paging and call recording – are available throughout the Trust.
The role includes escalation and technical support for the Service Desk Administrator and may require covering for the Service Desk Administrator as needed.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake technical support for the Unified Communications Team, covering all services and related systems on site, including telephony, paging, radios, IT applications and desktop support.
The Junior Network Engineer will provide front‑line service desk service, responding to phone calls, emails and walk‑ins, and creating tickets to track work to completion.
The post holder will support Network Engineers with routine maintenance of equipment and applications, performing patch and version control, upgrades and troubleshooting infrastructure faults on physical equipment or media as required. Out‑of‑hours work may be needed to minimise Trust impact.
The Junior Network Engineer will aid the Service Desk Administrator in logging, categorising and allocating workflow to the appropriate team area and will provide cover during periods of absence, such as annual leave.

Qualifications (Essential)
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, including Maths GCSE pass at grade 4 or above, English GCSE pass at grade 4 or above

Experience (Essential)
* Relevant experience supporting telephony, paging or IT systems in a large organisation
* Customer Service and dealing with enquiries in difficult situations

* Communicating with patients and the public to ascertain their requirements and expectations
* Data entry and production of management information and ad‑hoc reports
