Automotive Course Leader – Department: Engineering

Salary: £38,841 to £44,993 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week

Reference: REC2302 | Closing Date: Wednesday, 5th November 2025

The Opportunity

You will take the lead in shaping and delivering the automotive provision while teaching across a range of engaging courses. You will play an important role in developing new programmes, exploring innovative teaching methods, and ensuring that the curriculum continues to meet the needs of both our learners and industry. Your leadership will help create a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment where every learner can succeed and reach their potential.

In this role, you will guide and support our staff within the automotive area, helping to maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. You will use college data management systems to monitor progress, produce reports, and set ambitious SMART targets for our learners. Collaboration will be key, as you work closely with colleagues to maintain strong attendance, retention, and achievement rates. You will also take responsibility for promoting a culture of safety within workshops, ensuring all staff and learners follow PPE and health and safety procedures.

You will lead on internal verification (IV) processes, contribute to curriculum planning and review, and develop engaging resources and teaching materials that inspire our learners. You’ll play an active part in the full learner journey — from recruitment and enrolment through to assessment and achievement — supporting each individual to progress with confidence. You’ll also take part in marketing activities, interviews, and school events to help attract future learners to the college.

This is a great opportunity to combine your passion for the automotive industry with your commitment to education and learner success.

About You

You’ll bring a strong background in the automotive industry along with a genuine passion for teaching and supporting our learners to succeed. You’ll combine your technical expertise with effective leadership and organisational skills, helping to drive continuous improvement within the automotive provision and ensuring that both our staff and learners achieve their full potential.

You’ll have at least two years of relevant work experience within an education setting or the automotive industry, supported by teaching experience and a recognised automotive qualification at Level 3 or above. You should also hold, or be willing to work towards, a recognised teaching qualification. You’ll have a sound understanding of curriculum review, development, and planning strategies, as well as the ability to create effective timetables that meet the needs of both learners and staff.

You’ll be confident in using a range of teaching methodologies to engage and challenge learners and will have a supportive approach that enables you to provide clear and constructive feedback to guide their progress. You’ll also have a good understanding of the pastoral needs of learners and a commitment to providing a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills will help you interpret data effectively and use it to inform improvements in attendance, retention, achievement, and success rates. You’ll also be comfortable using IT systems and databases to monitor learner progress and support quality assurance.

Collaborative and proactive in your approach, you’ll be an excellent communicator with strong verbal and written skills, capable of motivating others and building productive relationships across the department. Above all, you’ll be dedicated to delivering an outstanding learner experience, using your creativity, professionalism, and industry knowledge to inspire the next generation of automotive professionals.
