The post will be based in the community between the Two West teams. The exact breakdown of cover and location can of work can be agreed depending on the preference of the candidate and their area of residence.
The post will provide medical support to the community teams on a full-time basis working closely with the current, SAS and Specialist doctors.
The post holder will be encouraged to obtain and maintain section 12(2) approval of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and Approved Clinician status in Wales in order to participate in the on call rota for MHLD and to undertake assessments in the community, police custody, 136 suites.
The on call is 1 in 13.
Main duties of the job
This post will be based in the West area with clinical input into both the community teams agreed with the successful candidate.
The post involves close MDT working with no individual case load but rather providing medical input and reviews for those open to substance misuse services.
The post holder will be expected to work to the BCU substance misuse prescribing guidelines for both inpatient and community sessions.
Clinical duties will include liaison with neighbouring CMHT’s, inpatient wards (both psychiatric and at the local DGH’s) clinical support to the alcohol liaison service and attendance at multi-disciplinary team meetings.
The post holder will be expected to keep up to date in respect of clinical developments.
The post holder is expected to participate in all relevant clinical programme group meetings.

Professional
Essential Criteria
* Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
* Minimum of four years (full time or equivalent) in postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent EEA training. At least two years training must be in the relevant specialty or recognised equivalent training (this is defined as the successful completion of the Foundation programme, followed by either successful completion of ST1 and ST2 or CT1 and CT2 or as a FTSTA or its recognised equivalent).
* Or Equivalent experience in Substance Misuse Psychiatry.
* CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Desirable criteria
* Postgraduate Qualifications
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Section 12(2) Approval
Personal Skills
Essential criteria
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
* Good team working skills.
Experience
Essential criteria
* General medical skills. Experience in substance misuse for a minimum of 1 year.
Desirable criteria
* 2 years’ experience in Adult psychiatry.
Management & Audit
Essential Criteria
* Experience of Clinical Audit.
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of ability to contribute to service management
Teaching
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of participation in medical and multi-disciplinary teaching
