These are good posts to gain experience in general medicine to help decide what future career path you might take. Previous post holders have gone on to IMT rotations, specialty trainees rotations and GP training schemes. The rota will include on call cover for nights and weekends and is compliant with the new contract.

Main duties of the job

These posts are advertised as foundation fellow posts to support the Registrars and Consultants within the Medicine Division. The successful candidates will be expected to rotate within other sub-specialties.

This post is offered on a Fixed Term Contract basis and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Junior Medical on-call rota.

We are also proud to host the Defence Medical Group South East at Frimley Park with military surgical, medical and nursing personnel working alongside the hospital's NHS staff providing care to patients in all specialties.

Duties And Responsibilities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


* The appointee is responsible to the Consultants for the execution of his/her professional duties and for the supervision of the junior staff in the departments.
* He/she will be responsible for the routine and emergency admission of patients.
* He/she will arrange to be on duty for emergencies in accordance with the appropriate rota.
* He/she will carry out daily ward rounds to assess progress of patients and ensure that all treatments ordered are carried out and attend rounds with Consultants.
* He/she is to ensure that adequate patient notes are kept and correspondence is undertaken punctually at all times.
* He/she will make him/herself available to confer with patient's relatives, if required.
* In carrying out his/her duties, the appointee will at all times be responsible for keeping the Consultants informed of serious cases on the Ward, cases of death and any other matter which it is deemed necessary that their attention should be drawn to. Any cases in which he/she has doubts must be referred to the Consultant.
* During his/her appointment, the appointee will at all times be expected to carry out such duties as assigned to him/her by the Consultant staff of the department and perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
* It is the responsibility of the appointee to carry out tuition and training and supervision of the F1s (House officers) within the department and give occasional lectures to nursing staff as required.
* He/she should report to his/her Consultant any deviation from good health he/she may observe in any member of the junior medical staff

Daily Commitment

* Varies with post:
* Typically: Daily Consultant Input and twice weekly consultant ward rounds. Ward jobs in the afternoon to include talking to relatives, completing discharge summaries and liaising with other health care professionals. Other duties as per working plan in each placement.

Person specification

Qualifications And Experience

Essential criteria

* Must have completed 1 year Foundation training, preferably within medicine specialties and experience of acute on call shifts
* GMC registration with License to practice
* Evidence of Primary Medical Qualification

Desirable criteria

* MRCP Part 1
* Previous Experience at SHO level
* Audit/Research Experience
* Teaching experience

Competencies

Essential criteria

* Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date
* Evidence of competence in basic procedures e.g CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking
* Examples of awareness of own limitations, consulting senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help

Desirable criteria

* 12 months NHS experience
* Evidence of leadership qualities(not necessarily in medicine)
* Demonstrates a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition

Professional/Specialist/Functional Experience

Essential criteria

* Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
* Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk

Desirable criteria

* Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
* Other degrees, BSC, Masters, or PhD
* Understands the importance and impact of information systems in healthcare
