We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, and keen team player to undertake the role of Occupational Therapy Assistant on Andersen Ward. Andersen Ward is a 10-bedded Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) covering the entire North West. The unit's core purpose is to provide a consistently high level of quality specialist mental health care to women who are pregnant and mothers following childbirth.
Central to the philosophy of the MBU is to promote the mother and baby relationship within a secure and supportive environment, incorporating evidence-based practice from peri-natal and general mental health fields.
The perinatal period may make some women vulnerable to mental health issues. Conditions such as depression and puerperal psychosis can affect bonding between mother and baby.
The unit offers comprehensive advice, medical and psychological assessments, and treatments for women with current or past mental health problems during pregnancy or postpartum.
Please note - This role is not eligible for sponsorship unless you meet criteria by temporary exemption from current immigration rule changes effective from 22/07/2025. Separate provisions apply to workers sponsored and holding a Skilled Worker visa since before 04/04/2024.
Working under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist, the post holder will assist service users and their babies with perinatal mental health needs. Responsibilities include contributing to assessments, undertaking interventions as agreed with the occupational therapist and multidisciplinary team, and supporting service users to achieve their therapy goals through a person-centred, recovery-focused approach.
The post involves working individually and/or in groups with service users and their babies, with oversight from a Band 6 Occupational Therapist.
