It is a perfect time for those finishing their university courses or those who want a change to apply for our popular Band 5 occupational therapy rotation at the South London and Maudsley. Our current Band 5 staff have just rotated, and we have vacancies due to departures or promotions within the organization. We offer a variety of practice settings to help you build your skills in mental health. The Trust covers most of Southeast London, with roles ranging from inpatient to community and specialist services.
We provide regular development and preceptorship programmes to support you as a mental health occupational therapist. These programmes offer extensive networking opportunities and a supportive environment. Our staff often start in this rotation and grow their careers within the Trust, progressing to senior roles.
We have excellent professional development opportunities for OTs, and our Band 5 staff take advantage of these to enhance their skills in mental health practice. We work closely with service users and carers, not only in clinical settings but also in service development. See the attached film: SLaM Service User Involvement film 2025 v7.

The post holder will oversee and provide occupational therapy assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations for a designated group of clients within the local team, promoting well-being, recovery, and social inclusion. The role integrates both occupational therapy-specific and general elements, while adhering to the College of Occupational Therapists' Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
The rotation includes settings such as inpatient acute care, forensic, community, and specialist services like eating disorders and perinatal care.
The South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust offers comprehensive mental health services locally and nationally. With approximately 4,000 staff and a budget exceeding £330 million, it is part of Kings Health Partners, the Academic Health Sciences Centre, collaborating with Kings College London, Kings College Hospital, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trusts.
Directorates unify clinical services, education, training, and academic activities within single managerial units.
The occupational therapy and Allied Health Professions workforce comprises around 200 staff across the Trust.
The Band 5 rotation includes over 30 posts across various local and national specialist units, with each rotation lasting one year.
