Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist in Unscheduled Care
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide a wide range of services, including acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care to a population of over 1.15 million, extending to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
CMHACS is a new, comprehensive mental health service offering treatment and support as an alternative to hospital admission or prolonged inpatient stays. It is part of a review and reconfiguration of mental health unscheduled care services across NHS GGC. The core function of CMHACS is to provide short-term, intensive community-based treatment.
Role and Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership during normal working hours for the CMHACS team.
* Contribute to the strategic development and ongoing redesign of the service to meet care group needs.
* Hold RMO responsibilities for Adult Mental Health patients on the CMHACS caseload, including those under compulsory measures under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
* Assess and review patients, delegate responsibilities to Specialty Doctors, and supervise resident medical staff following Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.
* Lead daily multidisciplinary team meetings (Monday-Friday).
* Prescribe psychiatric medications and supervise non-medical prescribers within the team.
* Consider physical health aspects of patients and liaise with GPs and specialists as appropriate.
Additional Expectations
* Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota (1:25).
* Engage in postgraduate teaching and supervise medical and other discipline staff.
* Contribute to continuing professional development and research activities.
Work Hours
Standard non-premium hours, negotiable.
