Following the expansion of our Interventional Radiology (IR) service, we are excited to build our pioneer IR nursing workforce at the new Royal Marsden IR Unit in Sutton. We are looking to recruit an experienced IR nurse or any experienced nurse leader with transferable skills that can be evidenced as outlined in the job description.
The role would initially involve supporting and co-ordinating 4 sessions every Tuesday and Thursday with plans to further open additional sessions Monday through Friday.
The role would have a split of 60% clinical and 40% management function during the initial phase of the project until the department is fully operational.
The successful applicant will be expected to rotate through the different clinical areas within IR and demonstrate the required clinical skills

Main duties of the job
1. To take responsibility for the safe clinical nursing care of patients attending the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
2. To assess the needs of patients and develop, implement, document and evaluate appropriate care within the department ensuring that procedures are carried out within local and trust policies and procedures. To meet the requirements of the NMC’s Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice, with particular reference to personal accountability for nursing duties undertaken.
3. To work with other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team, to ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient and effective service.
4. To provide strong clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care.
5. To support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
6. Manage the IR nursing service in liaison with the IR management, the IR consultants, the IR nurses, IR support workers and all the members of the multi-disciplinary team to maximise high quality patient care
7. To maintain clinical credibility through practice and to utilise the findings of nursing research and evidence-based care to optimise high quality patient care
8. To monitor and review nursing practice regularly, participating in audits which must include documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC Guidelines

9. NMC Nursing Adult 1 Registration
10. Evidence of ongoing professional development
11. Practice Supervisor
12. Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent)

13. Advance Life Support Certificate (can be obtained once appointed)
Experience

14. Demonstrable clinical experience required in IR as outlined in this job description
15. Confidently manage and escalate acutely unwell patients in an acute hospital environment within a substantive role
16. Venepuncture, cannulation and IV administration skills

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
