Job overview

We are recruiting for Theatre Team Leaders who share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We have two new roles available as Theatre Team Leaders. One post is in the Emergency Theatre, and one post would cover General & Gynae Surgery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will continuously maintain health, safety and control of Infection in clinical work areas.

You will assist in the care for patients undergoing a variety of elective (Urology, Obstetrics & Gynae, Robotics, and General Surgery) and Emergency procedures.

You will receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.

The successful candidate will ensure equipment, supplies and waste is kept to a minimum.

You will also possess the ability to work in any of the Theatre areas according to service needs, regardless of which theatre department they are based in, although it is anticipated that staff do permanently work in the department they are employed to be based in.

Person specification


Qualifications/Training

* RGN and/or ODP
* Registration with NMC/HPC
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Completion of relevant critical care modules at level 2 and /or level3 (Diploma/BSc)
* Advanced life support certificate


Previous Experience

* Relevant experience in either an inpatient or day surgery theatre or other relevant clinical area at band 5 or equivalent.
* Participation in formulation of procedures to ensure best practise
* Teaching and assessing
* Staff who wish to work as an anaesthetic assistant must have either the ODP qualification or Nurses must have additional formal post basic training in anaesthetics
* Peri-operative practice.....multi skilled in anaesthetics, recovery and scrub.
* Experience in a specialised area of theatre work
* Implementation of personal development plans


Skills

* Can perform in the role of either/and/or anaesthetic assistant, scrub and circulating assistant, recovery person.
* Adaptable and flexible approach to work
* Demonstrates clear communication
* Can effectively and efficiently run a theatre list
* Can delegate work when appropriate

* Can participate in the audit process
* Can perform effectively in an emergency situation

* Be able work within an environment which where you will be exposed to blood, body tissue and body fluids
* Be able to work in close proximity to patients undergoing open and closed operative procedures.
* Be able to concentrate for long periods of time
* Have excellent vision with / without glasses
* Able to stand still for long periods of time which could be for the duration of any operative procedure
* Able to work in an environment with high levels of physical activity Moving and Handling (including use of appropriate supporting equipment) Twisting Bending Pulling and pushing
* Able to wear personal protective equipment


Knowledge

* Can implement research based practise

* Knows how to carry out an audit and interpret and collate information and data
* Knowledge of DipHe ODP course and support required pre and post qualification by staff at Band 5 and below
