Role: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Trafford
Pay: £89 – £100 per day
Start date: January 2026 (with the possibility of transition days before Christmas)
New Directions Education is seeking a compassionate and patient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil in a mainstream primary school in Trafford.
The pupil you will be supporting is a bright and curious little girl who struggles to identify and regulate her emotions. She may become anxious or frustrated in certain situations and can find it challenging to interact with peers at times. Your role will be pivotal in helping her feel safe, understood, and supported, enabling her to engage fully with learning and school life.
Key responsibilities:
1. Provide consistent, one-to-one emotional and learning support tailored to the pupil’s needs
2. Help the child recognise, express, and manage her emotions in positive ways
3. Support social interactions and encourage the development of friendships and cooperative skills
4. Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to implement strategies and adapt the environment to reduce stress triggers
5. Assist with classroom tasks and activities, ensuring the pupil can participate and achieve her learning goals
6. Monitor progress and provide detailed feedback to inform ongoing support

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in a young child’s life, helping her thrive emotionally and academically in a supportive school environment. Transition days before January may be offered to help the child settle and establish a strong routine. This role is to continue until the end of the school year, with the possibility to become permanent and continue with the child through her primary education.
