Welcome to PROPER JOB Café, based at Cornwall Council’s New County Hall in Truro. We’re not your average café. We serve great food, yes—but our real purpose is creating pathways for people with learning disabilities and/or autism to gain skills, confidence, and independence. As Assistant Café Manager, you’ll be at the heart of this mission. Role Purpose:

To support the management of the PROPER JOB Café. Supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism into a range or person-centred work-related outcomes enabling them to live active and better lives. The role includes supporting the management of a trading and training café, providing quality food and drink with high levels of customer service, including planning, preparing and serving varied meals and snacks. The role will involve delivering work related and training opportunities working both independently and as part of a staff team.

What you'll be doing:

Lead and inspire alongside the Café Manager, keeping operations smooth and spirits high.

Step up and take charge when the Manager is away.

Bring ideas to the table—help us grow and innovate.

Keep things ticking—manage stock, records, and food safety with care.

Serve with pride—delicious meals, snacks, and baked goods done right.

Champion training—help design and deliver work experience programmes that empower.

Promote dignity and respect—because every interaction matters.

Knowledge of food safety and health & safety standards (or ready to learn).
