Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Specialist Sarcoma Multidisciplinary Team as the Lead core nurse member.


Key Responsibilities

* To undertake the Key worker role as identified in the 2004 Manual of Cancer Standards providing support, information and advocacy for sarcoma cancer patients and their carers.
* To work in collaboration with clinical colleagues to develop and improve services and the quality of care provided for sarcoma patients in line with national guidelines including the NHS Cancer Plan and Improving Outcomes Guidance.
* To provide advice and support for all members of the MDT in the care of sarcoma patients at any stage of their disease.
* Provide leadership and direction to the team acting as a role model and patient advocate.
* Assess, plan, and implement care providing advice and maintaining associated records; manage staff team and a budget.
* Involve other practitioners and agencies to meet complex needs.
* The sarcoma CNS team leader is responsible for delivering high quality co‑ordination care to support the Orthopaedic Sarcoma service on a day to day basis.
* The team leader has managerial responsibilities ensuring all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to within their own practice, lead a team to provide adequate cover and ensure the service is supported throughout periods of sickness and or absence due to holidays.
* The post holder will be a point of reference for the Orthopaedic Sarcoma Service and will lead by example to provide an exemplary model for others to follow.
* The post holder must have excellent communication skills to enable them to communicate with patients, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team as well as outside agencies.
* The post holder will be actively involved with the team in collecting evidence and supporting service improvement and development according to National cancer Peer Review Programme.
* The Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the Multi‑Professional team, patients and carers within their Speciality Service.
* The post holder will take overall responsibility to develop the specialist area of practice in partnership with other members of the speciality team (General Manager, Lead Clinician, Matron, Service Manager etc) and will work collaboratively to develop services and quality of care delivered.
* The post holder will be expected to provide first‑line management and lead a team of specialist nurses.
* This will be achieved through the core dimensions of the role, clinical practice leadership, acting as the patient advocate and through audit and education.
* The post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined case load or offering "highly specialist service advise" this will include setting standards of care, the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
* The post holder will contribute to achieving the objectives of the clinical service group / speciality corporate objectives and work within the clinical governance framework.
* They will lead the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development for staff within the speciality.
