We are working on behalf of a leading public sector environmental organisation in Wales to recruit a Forestry Civil Engineer to join their Integrated Engineering team in the South Wales.
This is an excellent opportunity for a civil engineering professional to take on a varied role supporting forestry infrastructure across Wales - delivering projects that directly contribute to sustainable land management and environmental protection.
The Role
You will support the delivery of the annual forestry engineering programme, helping to plan and oversee civil engineering works across the forest estate. Working closely with contractors, internal teams and stakeholders, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with environmental standards.
You'll play a key part in the planning of harvesting operations, maintenance of forestry road networks, and delivery of infrastructure projects, with responsibilities spanning contract supervision, inspections, surveying, reporting and budget monitoring.
The organisation supports flexible and hybrid working, with office location agreed within the South Central area of Wales.
Key Responsibilities
Manage construction, upgrade and maintenance of forest roads and harvesting facilities within budget
Inspect roads and footbridges at scheduled intervals and maintain accurate records
Carry out quarry and borrow pit inspections in line with regulations and report any breaches
Plan and prioritise resources to ensure projects meet time, cost and quality standards
Monitor budgets and highlight risks of under/overspend
Undertake EDM/level survey work and setting-out activities
Produce contract drawings and technical documentation
Compile tender documentation and drawings
Liaise with statutory bodies and stakeholders regarding proposed works
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards (including CDM 2015)
Participate in incident response activities when requiredEssential Experience / Skills
Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria:
Civil engineering contract management and project planning experience
Understanding of NEC3 contracts
Knowledge of CDM 2015 and construction H&S/environmental risk management
Experience of working in rural/upland environments and knowledge of forest road construction
Understanding of concrete and timber bridge construction techniques
Familiarity with Forest and Water Guidelines and the Water Framework Directive
Knowledge of Quarry Regulations (1999) and quarry management processes
Working knowledge of AutoCAD (or similar CAD packages)
Knowledge of MS Project
Experience delivering projects through framework contracts
Experience managing individuals or teams
Experience compiling tenders and drawings
Membership of a professional body (e.g. ICE) is desirable
