Key Responsibilities
● Expert Advice: Deliver clear, consistent, and accurate legal advice to Council
services and Members.
● Caseload Management: Manage a demanding caseload of complex legal matters,
ensuring all work meets formal practice management standards (Lexcel).
● Advocacy & Representation: Undertake advocacy in courts and tribunals and
attend evening committee meetings as required to advise on governance and
procedure.
● Strategic Contribution: Assist in the development of corporate policies and
operational plans that secure the achievement of Council objectives.
● Documentation: Draft complex legal reports and documentation while conducting
thorough legal research and analysis.
About You
We are looking for a professional who is qualified as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the
Institute of Legal Executives. You should demonstrate:
● Sector Expertise: Proven experience in areas of law relevant to Education and
Local Government.
● Communication Skills: Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with
the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
● Operational Excellence: Experience using case management systems and a track
record of achieving chargeable hours targets (minimum 1,200 per annum).
● Personal Attributes: A proactive, flexible approach with a professional demeanour
that builds confidence among stakeholders and Members.
● Commitment: A dedication to self-development and a firm adherence to the
Council’s Diversity, Equality, and Health & Safety policies
