Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (BABCP accred.)
Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £28,407 per annum
Vacancy Type: Permanent
About The Role
We’re looking for a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join our Talking Therapies team at HMP The Mount on a full-time basis (35 hours per week). This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals experiencing low to moderate mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression, within a structured, recovery-focused environment.
Working within a Talking Therapies service, you’ll deliver evidence-based, low-intensity psychological interventions (Step 2) designed to help people make meaningful progress in their mental health. You’ll work 1:1 and in group settings, supporting individuals to develop practical coping strategies and move forward with confidence.
What you’ll be doing:
Assessing suitability for low-intensity psychological interventions
Delivering Step 2 Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression
Providing 1:1 support and facilitating therapeutic groups
Managing a structured caseload with appropriate prioritisation and care planning
Working collaboratively with prison and partner agencies in a multidisciplinary setting
Participating in clinical supervision and case management
Maintaining accurate, high-quality clinical records and risk assessments
What we’re looking for:
Qualified or trainee PWP with a recognised PWP qualification (or working towards it)
Strong understanding of low-intensity CBT-based interventions
Experience working within Talking Therapies / IAPT frameworks
Ability to manage a caseload effectively and work within structured clinical pathways
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary working
Confidence in risk assessment and safe practice within a secure setting
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
This is a role where structure meets purpose. Every day, you’ll be working with people who may feel stuck or overwhelmed, helping them take practical, manageable steps towards change. Within a secure setting, your support can be a steady point of connection, helping individuals build insight, confidence, and coping strategies they can carry beyond the service.
If you’re motivated by meaningful clinical work, enjoy working as part of a supportive team, and want to make a tangible difference in people’s mental health journeys, this role offers a unique and impactful opportunity.
All prison-based roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting. These checks can take up to 5 months to complete. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of both checks.
Please note if you have lived overseas within the last 5 years then checks may take longer.
