Overview
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our team of developing Anaesthetists at Furness General Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for Anaesthetists to develop further skills in main theatres covering maternity, gynaecology, orthopaedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT while also supporting on our 1:8 on-call in Theatre & Obstetrics.
The hospital is a trust of 5 site bases with intensive care departments on 2 of its larger sites and theatres on 3 of the 5 sites. You will be based at Furness General Hospital with an expectation to cover Westmorland General Hospital as required. All of our hospitals offer a warm, friendly environment which we pride ourselves upon. Furness General Hospital is based close to the Lake District. Westmorland General Hospital is located on the outskirts of Kendal. Royal Lancaster Infirmary is based within the Historic City of Lancaster. All our hospitals are situated in areas of outstanding natural beauty, with good transport links to northern cities and a range of shops, restaurants, museums and galleries.
Responsibilities
* You will join a team of Consultants with several Specialists, Doctors, Specialty Doctors and ACCPs supporting all general services of the hospital including Accident and Emergency department, Theatres covering maternity, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT.
* You will work with some supervision while in theatres, experience dependent.
* On-call shifts provide non-residential cover for Theatres and Obstetrics.
* Assessment and preparation of patients for theatre and provision of immediate post-operative care, experience dependent.
* Actively participate in and present clinical audit.
* Demonstrate evidence based practice where appropriate.
* Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning.
* Satisfy the criteria for revalidation.
* Contribute to service development in areas of special interest and expertise.
* Actively participate in continuing medical education.
* Undertake personal appraisal and job-planning as part of revalidation.
* Maintain all mandatory training requirements.
Qualifications and requirements
* You must hold full GMC registration with a license to practice.
Training and Education
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay provide undergraduate medical training for Lancaster Medical School students, as well as academic/research links with Lancaster University. The Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets regulatory requirements and the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical School\'s MBChB degree programme.
