James Ray Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teacher to join a Primary SEMH school in Liverpool on a maternity cover basis. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity starting immediately, offering the chance to make a meaningful difference in a specialist setting.
This is a highly rewarding role supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them access education in a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment.
About the Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will take responsibility for a small class of pupils with SEMH needs, delivering engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to individual abilities. You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ emotional regulation, behaviour, and academic development.
Working closely with support staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams, you will create a safe and consistent classroom environment where pupils can thrive both socially and academically.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons aligned with the primary curriculum

Support pupils with SEMH needs, focusing on emotional regulation and engagement
*
Implement and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
*
Manage challenging behaviour using positive and consistent approaches
*
Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, and external professionals
*
Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
*
Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly
What We’re Looking For
*
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
*
Experience working with SEN, SEMH, or in a specialist/PRU setting
*
Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach
*
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education
*
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
*
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children
*
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
