Purpose: The purpose of this position is to prepare comprehensive working plans and detailed drawings of parts, sub-assemblies, complete machine assemblies, bill of materials, and outsource procurement of machines and components. The Mechanical Designer is responsible for planning, designing, and coordinating the integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes with a high level of proficiency. This is a top-level project management position, requiring full design skills and troubleshooting complex mechanical functions, working independently and collaboratively with the owner, project personnel including owner and president, sales, technical advisors, and fabrication staff.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
* Specify system components or modify products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, or environmental regulations.
* Develop or test models of alternative designs or processing methods to assess feasibility, sustainability, operating conditions, new applications, or modifications needed.
* Develop, coordinate, or monitor all aspects of production, fabrication, procurement, including selecting manufacturing methods and overseeing fabrication or operation of product designs.
* Estimate costs or prepare bids for engineering, construction, or extraction projects; communicate with overseas vendors.
* Design test control apparatus or develop procedures for testing products.
* Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, or repair to ensure machines or equipment function according to specifications.
* Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
* Apply engineering principles to emerging fields such as robotics, waste management, or innovative engineering practices.
* Provide technical customer service.
* Calculate energy losses for buildings using appropriate equipment.
* Design integrated mechanical or alternative systems to improve energy efficiency, such as mechanical cooling with natural ventilation.
* Select or install combined heat, power, cogeneration, or trigeneration units to reduce energy use or pollution.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electromechanical engineering.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in Machine Design.
* Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
* Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports.
* Motivated team player capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
* Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Physical Demands:
This role may require standing, walking, sitting, using hands for handling objects, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, or smelling. The employee must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
