The role
As a Naval Architect, you’ll be at the forefront of submarine design and support, applying your specialist expertise to sustain and enhance the capability of the UK’s current and next-generation submarine fleet. This is a rare opportunity to make a direct impact on national security, working on some of the most complex and strategically important engineering challenges in the defence sector.
Day-to-day, you’ll apply specialist expertise in submarine naval architecture to deliver technical solutions that sustain and enhance the capability of the UK’s current and next generation submarine fleet.
1. Delivering technical solutions that ensure the safety and performance of submarine platforms
2. Conducting stability analyses and supporting submarine stability experiments
3. Producing calculations and guidance for safe docking and manoeuvring
4. Developing tailored engineering toolsets and procedures
5. Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders including MoD clients and suppliers
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Naval Architect
6. Experience working on complex engineering projects, gained through education or employment, within sectors such as shipbuilding, submarine design, aerospace systems, or other high-integrity structural environments
7. Proficiency in tools such as Paramarine, Ansys, MATLAB, Orcaflex, AutoCAD/Inventor
8. Strong analytical and problem solving skills
9. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
10. Excellent communication and organisational skills
Qualifications for the Naval Architect
11. Degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, or MEng) in Naval Architecture, Marine Technology, Ship Science, or a related STEM discipline
