He recently moved into a self-contained flat next to his family home and attends an SEN school full-time. Arthur enjoys an active lifestyle and some of his favourite activities include swimming, visits to theme parks and zoos, trips to the library, and spending time outdoors. At home, he enjoys playing with his many toys and watching nursery rhymes on his iPad. Arthur is autistic and has Dravet Syndrome, a rare neurological condition associated with epilepsy, developmental delays, and motor challenges. He has a learning disability and limited verbal communication. Arthur is mobile and walks unaided for short distances, he uses a wheelchair for longer outings. All his medication and fluids are administered via a PEG. At times, Arthur may display behaviours that challenge, often as a form of communication or response to his environment. He benefits greatly from patient, consistent support and a calm, structured approach. Arthur needs support with all aspects of his personal care. Overview of role: This role involves leading a small team of care staff. Responsibilities include conducting regular supervisions, annual appraisals, and monthly team meetings, as well as planning and managing annual leave to maintain consistent staffing levels. The position requires creating and managing staff rota’s to provide full 24-hour coverage, seven days a week, and responding promptly to any unplanned absences due to sickness or holidays. Oversight of care delivery is essential, ensuring that Arthur’s care plan remains person-centered, up to date, and regularly reviewed. Medication and stock management duties include maintaining a minimum two-week supply of all medications, and overseeing household supply levels, such as food and cleaning products. Throughout the day and night, Arthur experiences epileptic seizures in various forms and requires constant monitoring. Waking night shifts involve closely observing him for seizures while ensuring he is comfortable and supported to get a good night’s rest. Weekends and school holidays provide a wonderful opportunity to engage Arthur in activities, as he loves spending time out and about. Unless he is unwell or the weather is particularly bad, weekends are typically filled with fun and adventure. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for the upkeep and organisation of Arthur’s flat, ensuring it remains clean, safe, and well-maintained.
