Overview
The Orchards is a nine bedded recovery unit for people with longer term mental health problems. It is situated near the cathedral city of Ripon, within easy reach of Leeds and York. The service aims to help people manage and recover from mental health problems, encourage participation in social activities and therapeutic groups, and support learning daily living skills. The aim is for service users to gain greater independence and follow a healthy lifestyle to achieve a good quality of life within the community.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Orchards rehabilitation and recovery team. OT is a crucial part of the Orchards MDT, delivering a high quality, needs-led OT service with robust assessments and intervention plans.
Main duties
* Be professionally accountable for an occupational therapy caseload, delivering 1-1 and/or group interventions autonomously in a variety of settings, including service users’ own homes.
* Seek guidance for highly occupationally complex cases from a more senior occupational therapist as appropriate.
* Undertake complex and non-complex occupational therapy assessments, co-create goals, and deliver interventions.
* Review occupational therapy interventions in collaboration with service users and their families as part of the multidisciplinary team to promote independence and wellbeing.
* Obtain consent for occupational therapy intervention using autonomous professional judgement, ensuring service users remain at the centre of decision making and are safeguarded.

Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Appropriate professional qualification for occupational therapy
* Current registration with the relevant regulatory body
* IELTS level 7 (SLT 8) for international recruits
* Minimum 12 months post-qualifying experience of occupational therapy delivery
Desirable
* Postgraduate training in a relevant specialist area
* Experience of supporting people with mental health issues, learning disabilities or autism
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
Knowledge
* Understanding of the needs of people who use services with mental health conditions or learning disabilities
* Clinical risk assessment and application in practice
* Knowledge of evidence-based practice in a designated specialist area
* Awareness of professional standards and their application to practice
