Model Risk Validation Manager - Validation

You will undertake independent validation of models across the Bank. As part of the second line of defence, the Model Risk Manager - Validation will be integral to delivering the model validation plan to ensure effective development and ongoing use of models across Vanquis Bank. The role involves working closely with first line model owners, users, and developers to promote a balanced risk-reward approach that supports the Group's long-term stability and success.


Responsibilities:

1. Lead independent validation of models used across the Bank to assess their conceptual soundness, technical design, and ongoing performance.
2. Promote a culture of high standards in model validation and management.
3. Attend meetings with stakeholders and senior leadership to report validation findings and communicate model risk.
4. Champion effective model maintenance, development, validation, and monitoring reviews.
5. Identify issues such as model drift, weaknesses, non-compliance, and risks, and communicate these to stakeholders.
6. Deputise for the Senior Model Risk Validation Manager as needed.
7. Maintain cooperative relationships with management and colleagues, ensuring compliance with regulations and fair customer outcomes.
8. Encourage transparency in validation reporting.
9. Understand relevant business areas through insightful questioning, considering regulatory and customer perspectives.


Experience required:

1. Professional experience in model development or validation.
2. Experience with model types such as forecasting, IFRS 9, scorecards, and pricing.
3. Ability to deliver high-quality work on time and support team members.
4. Effective communication skills to influence management decisions.
5. Analytical skills to interpret MI/BI for decision-making.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication, with influencing and negotiation skills.
7. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
8. Strong planning and organisational skills to prioritize tasks under pressure.
9. Ability to use initiative and conclude testing results confidently.
10. Proven independence and proactive workload management.
11. Positive attitude with leadership and motivational qualities.
12. Ability to deputise for senior managers when required.
13. Relationship management and influencing skills, balancing assertiveness with collaboration.
14. Risk-related qualification (e.g., IRM) is desirable but not essential.
15. Extensive experience in risk management roles.
16. Experience advising on Risk and Control Self-Assessment work.
17. Experience with Risk Management Information Systems.
18. Problem-solving mindset, driven and timely.
19. Ability to partner with stakeholders, understanding their views and reaching consensus using information and judgement.
