Legal Secretary – Family Law
Locations: Leeds, Huddersfield, Pontefract or Barnsley (flexible dependant on the candidate)
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to support their busy Family department. This role requires someone organised, proactive and steady under pressure, able to deliver first-class support to fee earners and an excellent service to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client contact by phone and in person, handling straightforward queries and updates
2. Liaising with third parties including barristers and support organisations
3. Managing diaries, appointments and conflict checks
4. Opening new files and ensuring accurate file management
5. Fast, accurate audio typing and document production
6. Assisting with statements, briefs for counsel, court bundles and family applications
7. Supporting with Legal Aid paperwork and incoming post during absence
8. Providing flexible team support across the department
Experience & Skills:
9. Previous legal secretarial experience (Family law experience essential)
10. Strong typing skills and familiarity with legal software
11. Excellent communication, grammar and attention to detail
12. Ability to prioritise, stay calm under pressure and maintain confidentiality
13. Team-focused with the initiative to work independently when needed
