Job overview

Our Specialist Community Public Health Nurses - either school nurses or health visitors wishing to transition, lead and line manage School Staff Nurses and Assistant Practitioners, to deliver a range of interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families to:

• support resilience and wellbeing
• improve health behaviours and reducing risk taking
• support healthy lifestyles
• support vulnerable young people and improving health inequalities
• support complex and additional health and wellbeing needs
• promote self-care and improving health literacy

The nature of their work requires clinical input and effective leadership as well as good project management skills.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the School Health Team you will support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme in accordance with national and local strategy/guidance.

A key part of your role will be to complete Health needs assessments, to support the identification of any unmet health needs and offer brief interventions and packages of care in line with evidence-based practice.

You will work in partnership with partner agencies in the identification and protection of vulnerable children and contribute to the development of care plans, working in accordance with local and professional guidelines.

This role requires you to undertake regulated activities to both children and adults.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered health care professional (NMC registration)
2. Health related degree and evidence of relevant post graduate development at Level 6
3. Evidence of Specialist qualifications relevant to area of practice - Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse or Health Visitor)

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Experience of working as a Nurse or Midwife.
5. Practical experience in managing health related projects/complex caseloads
6. Supporting others (mentor / educator / supervisor) experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria

7. Understanding of National Service Frameworks and NICE guidance to relevant to care setting and its application across health care services
8. You will have knowledge of up to date clinical practice by using up- to- date skills and adhering to evidence-based procedures and clinical effectiveness frameworks. You will fully understand the role and remit of a SCPHN.

Skills & Abilities

9. Understanding of training needs in relation to post
10. Ability to manage time effectively, priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines
11. Ability to work effectively with a variety of people at all organisational levels across different sectors including areas of social deprivation
12. Ability to communicate complex, sensitive information to individuals and groups
13. Strong influencing and negotiating skills
