Find out more about the benefits of working for the University of Birmingham Background: Birmingham International Academy (BIA) sits within Academic Services and works collaboratively with the Colleges to provide Presessional English, Academic English and Foundation Programmes. The BIA has an entirely international student cohort and a safeguarding responsibility to students under the age of 18. The BIA is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK. Role Summary: The clerical assistant will work within the BIA Operations and Administrative team during the busy summer period where the department has around 1000 students and 100 new teachers. The role will involve helping through the whole student journey, from student applications and induction days to attendance monitoring, database management, exam support and collation of student grades. There will be a degree of helping with student social events in a vibrant environment. The job will involve providing support to both students and staff. Main Responsibilities: Monitoring student attendance, chasing up teachers and students for info Database management, ensuring all data is accurate so that reports can be run Checking student application status and replying to standard emails Auditing Canvas courses Assisting in Student induction days Exam support Collating student marks and preparing exam board documentation Preparing student reports Administering teacher observations Helping with the CPD conference Writing minutes for meetings Assisting with student surveys Dealing with teacher and student queries as they arise Possible reception cover if required Person Specification: A good standard of literacy and numeracy as may be evidenced by GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) AC/9-4 or equivalent qualification. Where no equivalent qualification is held, relevant work experience evidencing the skills and ability to undertake the role will normally be required. Proficient in Microsoft packages. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential. Excellent team working and communication skills both written and verbal is essential. A customer focussed approach. An ability to organise your own workload is required. Ability to learn and understand how diversity considerations affect own area (e.g. dietary requirements/dress code).
