Role Summary
You will work on the front line of the UK’s criminal justice system as a Bailiff for HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). Your duties will involve visiting people at home or at their business premises, conveying court orders, managing disputes and ensuring customers are treated with empathy and respect.
Key Responsibilities
* Visiting court users in the community, explaining court matters and available options.
* Co‑ordinating and preparing court documents, including court orders, bailiffs notices, and recovery notices.
* Engaging with customers in a calm, professional, and non‑judgemental manner, demonstrating empathy for court users and maintaining confidentiality.
* Maintaining accurate records and evidence in the HMCTS case‑management system.
* Planning and managing daily workload, adapting when priorities change.
* Ensuring safety and compliance with PPE and training requirements.
* Representing HMCTS positively with the public and community stakeholders.
* Participating in training and continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Experience
* Full UK driving licence (and permanent licence). Ability to use a car or a lease car after probation.
* Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
* Ability to handle difficult or emotional conversations with calm and clear language.
* Experience in customer service, dispute resolution or a role dealing with public expectations.
* Knowledge of court order processes is an advantage.
* IT competency – comfortable using HMCTS case‑management systems.

Working Arrangements
Standard full‑time hours are 37 hours per week. The role also accepts part‑time (minimum 22.2 hours per week, 3 days per week) and job‑share arrangements. Hybrid working is available – a minimum of 60 % of working time must be spent in the office. The role may require local travel across West and North Yorkshire.
