We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Band 7 Vascular Scientist to join our small but busy team within the Cardio‑Respiratory and Vascular Diagnostics department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
This permanent part‑time post offers 15 hours per week, supporting core hours of the service which runs between 08:00–18:00 hrs Monday–Friday.
Applicants should have worked as a highly specialised ultrasound practitioner and possess extensive experience and knowledge to provide expert level care to patients. Prior experience in vascular ultrasound is desirable, though general ultrasound experience will also be considered with full training provided. NHS Vascular STP trainees graduating summer 2026 may be considered for a Band 6 position with progression to Band 7 following HCPC registration and a preceptorship period.
Responsibilities
* Independently perform and report on a range of diagnostic vascular ultrasound investigations, including carotid artery scans, arterial scans, aneurysm surveillance, ABPI, venous insufficiency studies, and assessment for DVT on both upper and lower limbs.
* Share clinical duties with other members of the vascular sonography team and exercise a high degree of autonomous working, taking direct responsibility for management of workload on a daily basis.
* Provide high‑quality vascular investigations on a variety of patients in situations where manual dexterity and physical fitness may be challenged, respecting the rights of dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
* Show competency in the use of Philips EPIQ Elite ultrasound equipment, optimising image quality and diagnostic yield even in ergonomically challenging conditions.
* Make clinical judgements and critical decisions using knowledge, skills and experience.
* Vet requests for diagnostic investigations, prioritise workload accordingly, and recognise urgency of ultrasound requests.
* Interpret findings and provide concise, formal diagnostic reports in accordance with local protocols and SOPs, using discretion to work outside of these when clinically needed.
* Upload reports, communicate results to clinicians and other members of the vascular team, and ensure results are appropriately acted upon, including urgent notification of unusual/adverse results.
* Understand and record examination limitations, seek second opinion if required, and document findings accurately.
* Work in dimmed or poor lighting environments requiring intense concentration, and perform examinations on patients who are often frail or acutely ill, including exposure to body fluids or foul linen.
Qualifications
* Experience as a highly specialised ultrasound practitioner.
* Proven knowledge of vascular ultrasound techniques; general ultrasound experience is acceptable with training provided.
* Ability to operate Philips EPIQ Elite equipment.
* Strong clinical judgement, prioritisation skills, and effective reporting.
* Commitment to patient confidentiality and professional standards.
