The DDAT department is looking to recruit an experienced Data Management and Ethics Officer to support the Council's responsible use of data and to create a data ethics approach integrated into all data-related activities. Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a data management and ethics framework covering consent, legal compliance, data security, privacy, validity, bias, inequality, and public good considerations.
2. Promote data governance and management standards, communicate best practices, and facilitate continuous improvement.
3. Lead initiatives to enhance data maturity and monitor progress.
4. Ensure ethical data collection, access, use, and sharing aligned with the council’s data lifecycle framework, benefiting stakeholders and communities.
5. Advocate for the adoption of ethical data practices in council projects, ensuring 'ethical by design' principles.
6. Drive awareness and integration of data management and ethics across the Council, supporting data science, policy-making, and service delivery.
7. Align data ethics and lifecycle management with wider information governance policies and practices.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience in information management, governance, or data science. They should possess knowledge of data management best practices, data analysis, and data ethics, especially in the public sector, along with an understanding of relevant legal frameworks.
