At Chapel Street Surgery, we pride ourselves on our innovative approach to healthcare, with a focus on delivering excellent patient care and high standards of clinical governance. ​We are looking for a Receptionist to join our Chapel Street Surgery team, to provide a specialist resource for patients within our practice in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team. Full or part-time hours are available. JOB DESCRIPTION ​ Job title: Receptionist Salary £12.60 per hour Reporting to: Reception Supervisor Accountable to: Business Manager ​ 1. Job Summary ​ The post holder/s will ideally work between Monday to Friday and may on occasion be required to work on a Saturday with notice when the Surgery offers extended hours service. The post holder/s will be reliable and work flexibly, act on their own initiative and judgement in prioritising key and urgent tasks. They will have previous experience in communicating and supporting the public and possess excellent social skills. The ability to engage with our patients in a sensitive, calm and non-judgemental manner on a daily basis by face-to-face, telephone and email. The post holder/s will exhibit a high level of confidentiality, sensitivity and awareness and use skills of tact and diplomacy and to ensure that the high profile nature of the work of the GP is maintained at all times. They will attend courses as deemed necessary for the efficient running of the reception area of the practice. The post holder is required to have a good standard of general education including Math, English and IT skills together with the ability to work in an organised and efficient way. ​ 2. Key Responsibilities Act on own initiative, within broad procedural guidelines and without direct supervision. Undertake activities within the reception area such as answering the telephone, booking appointments, processing prescriptions, scanning documents, inputting data and supporting any external services that may be in the building. Undertake patient registrations ensuring all the coding is complete and information has been correctly transferred. Liaise with Secondary Care, Social Services and other teams as necessary. Ensure efficient service delivery to patients. Ensure effective time management and workload prioritisation. Participate in staff duty rota and arrangements for appropriate substitution during staff absence or holiday. Promote good staff relations and motivation. Provide effective communication mechanisms with all public and professional users of the practice - either face to face, over the telephone, in writing or by electronic mediums. Ensure strict adherence to the practice’s computer security protocols. Participate in internal and external training events as required. Use own initiative to effectively organise own work and that of the reception staff within the team. Actively partake in supervisions and Appraisals. Ensure building security arrangements are implemented. Ensure that complaints from patients are brought to the attention of the Reception Supervisor or Practice Manager. Sussex Primary Care (SPC) manage several GP surgeries across Sussex. The business is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) and was set up to support GP practices looking for a different way of working, forming a unique and innovative partnership between GP services and NHS Community Services.
