Support. Guide. Transform.

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a resilient and committed Behaviour Support Assistant to work within a specialist Alternative Provision. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people who require additional behavioural and emotional support to succeed in education.

About the School:

This well-established Alternative Provision supports students who have been excluded, are at risk of exclusion, or require a more personalised and structured environment to meet their needs. The setting caters for pupils with SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds, behavioural challenges, and additional learning difficulties.

The provision offers a carefully adapted curriculum alongside therapeutic and pastoral support. Staff work collaboratively to build positive relationships, promote emotional regulation, and re-engage pupils with learning. Class sizes are small, allowing for consistent, targeted intervention and strong staff-student rapport.

The environment is structured, supportive, and centred around restorative practice and clear behavioural expectations.

The Role

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:

* Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support across KS2–KS4
* Support pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, trauma-informed approaches, and emotional regulation strategies
* Assist in de-escalating challenging situations using positive behaviour techniques
* Build strong, professional relationships to promote trust and engagement
* Support reintegration pathways into mainstream or sustained placements
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and senior leaders
* Monitor and record behavioural progress and interventions
* Promote safeguarding, attendance and positive routines

This role requires confidence, resilience, and a proactive approach. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop coping strategies, self-regulation skills, and positive attitudes towards education.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

* Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour
* A strong understanding of SEMH and trauma-informed practice
* Excellent behaviour management skills
* The ability to remain calm under pressure
* A consistent, firm but fair approach
* A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
* Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)

Experience within Alternative Provision, PRU settings, youth work, or residential care would be highly advantageous.

Why Work with GSL Education?

* Competitive daily pay rates
* Dedicated consultant support from registration to placement
* Ongoing CPD and training opportunities
* Opportunities for long-term and permanent roles
* A supportive and transparent recruitment process
