Meet Dr Carly Pointon, Director of Clinical Services:

Since graduating in 2000, Dr Carly Pointon has worked in a variety of psychological settings, bringing with her over 25 years of considerable experience. Starting in Forensic Psychology and then qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, Carly has worked with charities, HMPS, schools, residential homes, Special Educational Needs settings, the courts and 1000s of children, young people and families. As the creator of Pointon Psychology and a senior operational leader in the United Kingdom, Carly has demonstrated remarkable leadership in providing high impact services by managing sizable clinical teams across several sites and sectors. In her capacity as Head of Clinical Operations for a leading provider, she managed a large team over 100s of locations in the UK, including Scotland and Wales. Carly's enthusiasm for creating ground breaking ideas and cultivating deep connections that improve service delivery characterises her leadership.

Carly's personal journey was shaped by overcoming childhood experiences that shape who she is today, and she is a values driven, sincere, and compassionate leader dedicated to assisting others. Her strong passion in assisting individuals in discovering their own unique and healthy emotional wellbeing is the foundation of Omega Clinical. Apart from her professional responsibilities, Carly actively supports charities such as Nacoa UK and Endometriosis UK, encouraging aspiring Psychologists and motivating women in business.

Carly wants to create a dynamic environment at Omega Clinical where psychological ideas are applied to real world problems and our stakeholder's voices are at the heart of what we provide. As we begin operations in the summer of 2025, Omega Clinical is looking for a committed and driven, experienced qualified clinician who is either a Practitioner Psychologist or Psychotherapist. This is a growing team and further clinicians will be employed as it expands. There are also current adverts for an Assistant Psychologist and Senior Assistant Psychologist out at present. Our school, Foundations For Life has a commissioned Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* To develop the communication skills of individual young people by working collaboratively with families, school staff and residential staff in the assessment and support of pupils.
* To work with the Clinical Team to provide a high-quality Speech and Language Therapy services to children and young people.
* Assess young people's speech, language and communication skills using a variety of formal and informal methods.
* To analyse assessments, make a differential diagnosis, contribute to decision making and develop therapy goals and care plans.
* To formulate, implement, regularly review and evaluate communication targets for young people according to their individual needs.
* To provide programmes of therapy activities and demonstration of those activities to school staff and students' families/carers to ensure carry over and generalisation of skills to wider communicative environments.
* To ensure regular communication with students' families/carers, school staff and other professionals.
* Demonstrate the ability to manage children with challenging behaviours and complex needs.
* To provide training (formal and informal) for staff; families/carers and other professionals, in collaboration with Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist.
* To produce accurate written reports detailing results of assessments, review of interventions provided and recommended targets for students Education Health and Care Plans.
* Maintain accurate case notes and therapy goals in accordance with professional guidelines.
* To be familiar with and adhere to settings policies and guidelines e.g. Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Positive Behaviour Support.
* To act as supervisor to students placed with you in consultation with the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist.
* To act as an autonomous practitioner delivering assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation working as part of a Multidisciplinary Team.
* Maintain confidentiality in all areas of work.
* To maintain a high standard of professional practice as set out by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) in the professional code of conduct, the Health Professions Council (HPC) and service standards, including maintaining continuing professional development (CPD).
* To engage in regular Clinical Supervision sessions with Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist.
* Newly Qualified Practitioners (NQP) will complete evidence for RCSLT NQP competencies within 18months of taking up post to transition from NQP to full RCSLT register.
* Be accountable for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.
* Keep up to date with, and be responsive to, new developments and research.
* To undertake such other 'reasonable' duties relevant to Omega Clinical that may be required from time to time.

Person Specification

Essential

* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree level qualification.
* Registered member Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Registered member of Health Professions Council.
* Knowledge of professional standards and code of conduct and their application in practice.
* Knowledge of a range of assessment tools and appropriate interventions.
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, support and proactively challenge others.
* Working knowledge of standards of record keeping.
* Knowledge of and commitment to safeguarding.
* Commitment to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
* Ability to use a range of IT.

Desirable

* Further qualifications in the field of SEN.
* Experience of working with young people with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome within a school setting (including placement experience).
* Experience of integrated working in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Training and presentation experience.
* Understanding of a range of assessment tools and appropriate interventions relevant to young people with ASD and SEMH.
* Knowledge of current evidence based practice and application to practice.
* Knowledge of basic behaviour management applicable to working with young people with ASD and SEMH.
* Ability to supervise and delegate appropriate work to support staff and assess and follow up on impact.
* Proven skills in prioritising and being flexible and adaptable to meet competing priorities.
