Job Summary
Welcome to the Fairfield General Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. We are part of the larger Northern Care Alliance of hospitals in the region including Salford Royal, Royal Oldham and Rochdale Infirmary. We are looking for a Respiratory Physician to lead, complement and develop general and specialist respiratory and lung cancer care within the Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford Locality. This post is part of the Respiratory Directorate and is rated outstanding by the CQC.
Responsibilities
• Lead, complement and develop respiratory and lung cancer care within the localities mentioned.
• Develop sub‑specialty interests in lung cancer (screening, EBUS), sleep, ILD, pleural and asthma.
• Perform triage, virtual and outpatient review of general respiratory referrals.
• Input to local and shared MDTs for lung cancer, sleep,D, asthma and regional asthma cough MDTs.
• Develop an acute respiratory “hot clinic” for A&E/SDEC patients to receive early respiratory input.
• Perform pleural day case procedures including indwelling pleural catheters and support thoracoscopy service.
Person Specification
Professional Registration
* Full registration with the General Medical Council with a valid license to practice.
* Registration on the GMC Specialist Register‑CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
Qualifications
* Primary medical qualification (e.g. MB, ChB).
* Hold MRCP or equivalent qualification or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
* Appropriate higher degree (e.g., PhD) – desirable.>>
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Clinical experience in palliative medicine and broad knowledge of general medicine.
* Broad experience managing all aspects of palliative medicine.
* Good understanding of clinical governance.
* Understanding of research methodologies and commitments.
* Evidence of audit work leading to change.
Skills & Abilities
* Teamwork – positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team.
* Management awareness within the health service context.
* Empathetic communication – clear, sensitive, influential.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Teaching experience with junior staff, medical students and other professionals.
* Proven ability to build and sustain effective teams (desirable).
