Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 full‑time HIV Specialist Nurse to join our established HIV nursing team within the Infectious Diseases Unit at Castle Hill Hospital. We seek an enthusiastic, motivated, and adaptable individual.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist HIV nursing care across a range of settings, including outpatients, inpatient wards, community, outreach clinics and home visits.
* Act as the first point of contact for patients and coordinate multidisciplinary team members.
* Conduct independent reviews of patients to ensure effective delivery of care.
* Deliver specialist advice, education and ongoing support to patients and healthcare teams within the wider region.
* Participate in standard‑setting and research projects and facilitate learning of others.
* Work independently and autonomously while maintaining teamwork and collaboration.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Essential:
o Registered General Nurse (currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council)
o Practice assessor/supervisor training (previously mentorship)
o Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience
o Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team
o Proven ability to evaluate safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice
o Evidence of suitable continuing professional development and up‑to‑date knowledge
o Understanding of evidence‑based practice and National Standards informing practice
o Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct and medico‑legal aspects of specialist nursing
o Understanding of equal opportunity, diversity and confidentiality issues
o Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
o Time‑management and prioritisation of workload
o Full UK driving licence with access to a car for inter‑site travel
* Desirable:
o Educated to degree level
o Experience in teaching/mentoring or relevant qualification
o Advanced communication course completion
o NHIVNA Generic HIV nursing competencies
o Qualification in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology or HIV
o Post‑registration experience in HIV, sexual health or infectious diseases
o Leadership and management experience
o Knowledge of policy developments related to HIV care delivery
o Phlebotomy and venepuncture skills
o Strategic thinking and presentation skills
