Overview
The role involves implementing a broad, balanced curriculum for students and supporting a designated curriculum area. The position includes monitoring student progress as a teacher/form tutor, facilitating learning experiences, raising attainment standards, and supporting personal and academic growth.
Responsibilities
* Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students.
* Support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
* Monitor and support overall progress and development of students as a teacher/form tutor.
* Facilitate and encourage learning experiences that enable students to achieve their individual potential.
* Contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
* Operate within the academy’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
* Plan and deliver lessons, develop resources and syllabuses, and contribute to departmental planning.
* Contribute to curriculum planning.
* Participate in staff development, including continuing professional development and the Performance Management Review process.
* Engage in quality assurance, monitoring and evaluating subject area performance.
* Maintain accurate records and track student progress.
* Communicate with students, parents and other stakeholders.
* Act as a form tutor to a selected group of students.
Qualifications and Experience
* Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
* Have successful teaching experience at secondary level (including teaching practice if applicable), ideally in multi‑ethnic urban schools and in an 11‑18 setting.
* Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
* Understand the importance of high expectations and equality of access for all students.
* Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and ability to write lesson plans, develop resources and assess students’ work.
* Work effectively as part of a team and develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff.
* Good ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive whiteboards.
* Create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students.
* Communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessary.
* Strong written and spoken communication skills.
* Lead and manage own work effectively with excellent time‑management skills.
* Motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies.
