Engineering Mechanical/Metallurgist Weld and Testing – AIRED Mechanical Workshop (British Steel Support Function)

About the Role
The position provides rapid technical advice and guidance on engineering metallurgy, materials, failures, repairs and welding issues in support of the business. The team ensures that plant and equipment failures are investigated to establish the root cause and to make recommendations for prevention and subsequent repair. The team is also required to provide practical and relevant advice on NDT methods and the inherent limitations.
Support is given primarily to engineering functions but the team do also support production functions of the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Carryout detailed metallurgical failure investigations and propose appropriate solutions and recommendations to plant owners.
* Provide technical support and guidance on engineering metallurgy, materials and welding issues.
* Provide advice on suitable materials for new, replacement or existing plant equipment so that it meets design requirements.
* Carryout inspections, including non-destructive and destructive testing.
* Support the use of structured root-cause analysis processes, in line with business risk, to develop and implement solutions to identify significant issues to the business
* Identify changes in international standards, competence requirements and technological advances and ensure that these are communicated within the business.
* Deliver all objectives assigned within the departmental Safety Improvement plan, compliance with HS&E requirements and demonstrate leadership to others in this area.
What We’re Looking For
* Ideally Degree educated in Mechanical/Materials engineering or similar
* Strong analytical and investigation skills
* Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
* Excellent report writing and attention to detail
