Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Children's Nursing team in the community in Barking & Dagenham. Spanning both CDC nursing and Specialist School Nursing, it offers the chance to work with children with additional needs and SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities). You will gain insight into the medical, social, and family impact on a child's development and how to support children to be their best selves. Celebrating the uniqueness of each child and promoting this within the community. You will support families, parents, and carers in understanding their child's individual needs and empower them to promote their child's health and wellbeing daily.
You will have the opportunity to learn more about neurodisability, genetics, and their impact on development. How to support the child to be their best selves and help the community understand and support them.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will have an allocated caseload and be offering support with assessment, management, and planning of a child's care needs both at home and in school/nursery placements. You will work with the wider team, including the Universal Children's team, to prioritize children with additional needs and raise awareness within the community.
The post-holder will support the team and service in implementing the NHS agenda and the proposed neighbourhood MDTs. Helping to build resilience in the community by providing services, support, and information where the child lives locally. This will include effective communication and liaising with wider statutory agencies to support.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT places great importance on properly welcoming and inducting new starters. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation. New starters will also have opportunities to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health, wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This post is subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt unless they are currently partway through a probation or are a bank staff member.
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post attracts a 15% payment of the basic salary (minimum £4,551, maximum £5,735 per annum pro rata).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will experience working across community and specialist school placements supporting vulnerable children with developmental impairments and learning disabilities. You will collaborate with nurses and clinicians across children's community services, providing learning and development opportunities related to children with SEND.
You will manage a caseload, supporting assessment, management, coordination, planning, and delivery of care for children and their families/carers, considering their lived experiences and impact on health and development.
