Full TimeSt Joseph's College is a vibrant independent day and boarding school in Ipswich providing a broad and seamless education for boys and girls aged 2 - 18. We provide a wide range of stimulating and challenging opportunities that our pupils embrace in both the academic and extra-curricular life of the College

St Joseph’s College invites applications for the one-year maternity cover position of Teacher of Politics and History, starting in November 2025.

History is a vibrant, popular and successful subject at the College, with strong outcomes at both GCSE and A Level. Many students go on to study History or related disciplines at university. The subject sits within a large and supportive Humanities Faculty, and the successful candidate will join a team of two other experienced History teachers. Regular educational visits, including to the Battlefields of Northern France, form a key part of the department’s enrichment programme.

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspiring teacher to continue the College’s strong provision in both Politics and History. In particular, the ability to deliver A Level Politics is essential. You will be able to stretch, challenge and engage students of all abilities, supporting each young person to reach their full potential. A genuine passion for the subject and a willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school, including extra-curricular activities, are also key to this role.

Further details and an application form can be found at www.stjos.co.uk/our-community/job-vacancies or by contacting the HR Officer by email (careers@stjos.co.uk) or telephone (014 73) 690281. Should you like to have a preliminary discussion please do not hesitate to contact the College.

The closing date for applications is noon on Thursday 24 July 2025. The College reserves the right to interview prior to the closing deadline, so early applications are encouraged.

St Joseph’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undertake child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service. Please be advised that applications cannot be accepted unless they are on the College’s Application Form. References will be taken up and will be carefully checked. DBS charge payable by applicant.
