Job overview

We are seeking to employ a band 6 Registered Nurse with oncology nursing experience and a keen interest in clinical research. This position will support the delivery of advanced/novel therapies working within a specialised team of Research Nurses from both Velindre University NHS Trust and the Research Delivery Team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

This collaborative working and The Cardiff Cancer Research Partnership will improve research access for patients in South Wales and beyond. This post would ensure we have the nursing skills and capacity to be able to do this, consistent with the Velindre University NHS Trust’s Overarching Cancer Research and Development Ambitions 2021-31.

This position requires agility as working across 2 sites is required, the successful candidate will also be working alongside a dedicated research team setting up, collaborating and delivering trials for the new Cardiff Cancer Research Partnership.

Main duties of the job

* To co-ordinate the delivery of the early phase portfolio of trials under the supervision of Early Phase Nurse Team Lead.
* Responsible for coordinating and implementing research protocols.
* Promote clinical trials and create an awareness of Velindre Clinical Trials Unit and promote awareness of the S E Wales early phase portfolio and activity.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Deputise for Band 7 Team Lead in their absence.

Qualifications and / or Knowledge


Essential criteria

* 1st Level Registered Nurse with evidence of continued professional development.
* Post basic qualification in Cancer Care/Research or willingness to work towards.
* Knowledge of the research process and regulatory requirements e.g. ICH-GCP.


Desirable criteria

* Clinical Research Qualification.
* Teaching qualification
* ECDL


Experience


Essential criteria

* Experience at Band 5, with experience in oncology.
* Previous clinical trial experience.


Desirable criteria

* Phase 1/2 trial experience.
* ITU / HDU experience


Skills and Attributes


Essential criteria

* Venepuncture/cannulation skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative with excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Good patient advocate
* IT Skills – able to use WORD, Internet and Email


Desirable criteria

* Teaching and presentation skills.
* Counselling skills
* Systemic Anticancer Treatment administration (SACT)


Other


Essential criteria

* Ability to travel, in the course of duties
* Flexible approach to working hours according to service needs


Desirable criteria

* Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards
