Personal Assistant – 09/Kil/HJ
Salary: Living wage rate – £13.73 per hour. Wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears by a payroll service.
Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks paid annual leave pro rata for contracted staff.
Hours: Flexible from 10 up to 18 per week. Available early mornings (7am‑9:15am some full days 7‑4:30pm). Some evenings 6‑8pm and Saturday daytime.
Job Purpose: Young man with Down’s syndrome, autism and related sensory challenges, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and chronic reflux disease.
Support person: Male, youthful, fit & energetic, fun loving, active, not afraid to be silly. Likes to dance & sing. Must be patient, kind & sensitive, firm but gentle, assertive but calm. Able to swim. Driver and has own car. Clearly spoken, calm slow speech.
Experience
* Experience of supporting someone with Down’s syndrome & autism (advantageous)
* Previous experience supporting people with communication difficulties and sensory challenges
* Knowledge of Makaton sign also advantageous
* Education/early years training/evidence useful to support continued development with literacy & numeracy
The Job
* Support and promote independence: get washed & dressed, make breakfast, eating & drinking support, taking medication, washing dishes, get ready to go out for the day
* Support travel to activities such as ten pin bowling, gym, swimming, all ability bikes
* Support at work experience, attend evening social groups, weekend social support
* Support at home after day to wash & tidy, packed lunch dishes, stay safe
Hours (initially with opportunity to increase)
* Monday: 7am‑9am
* Tuesday: 7am or 9am‑4:30pm
* Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: 7am‑9:15am
* Saturdays: 10am‑1pm or 11am‑2pm alternate
* Friday evening: 6:15‑8:15pm
