Job Summary

Following an organisational change within the pharmacy department this exciting opportunity has become available. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to lead the surgical pharmacy team within NUH.

In this role you will manage a large team of specialist and rotational pharmacists, medicines management technicians and medicines management assistants to deliver excellent care across the surgical pathways.

You will act as a clinical role model within the team, delivering direct patient care at an expert level and will form part of the Pharmacy Clinical Management Services Team. You will drive the development and delivery of the highest quality of pharmaceutical care and be supported by the Pharmacy Department and Care Group Leadership Team to continually improve our service.


Responsibilities

* Lead and manage the clinical pharmacy service within the Surgery Care Group.
* Line manage the team of Specialist Clinical Pharmacists.
* Provide an expert, patient-facing, clinical pharmacy service within the Care Group acting as a clinical pharmacist role model.
* Support the Care Group with all matters relating to medicines such as governance and safety, while demonstrating compassionate leadership.
* Form part of the Pharmacy Clinical Services Management Team and work with colleagues regionally and nationally to deliver excellent care.
* Strategically develop clinical pharmacy and medicines management services to the Surgery Division.
* Organise and deliver service objectives, and deliver the education, training and development of others to promote a learning culture.
* Use research to deliver effective practice and identify and undertake research to inform practice.
* Take full part in the 7‑day shift rota and bank holiday duties and provide general clinical pharmacy duties.
* Spend time at both the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham City Campuses and National Rehabilitation Centre.


Qualifications & Experience

* Essential: B.Pharm / B.Sc (Pharmacy) or MPharm; Diploma in clinical pharmacy or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Professional registration: GPhC registered; member of relevant national specialist pharmacist group.
* Experience: Broad knowledge base of a wide range of clinical areas; extensive post‑registration hospital experience; in‑depth pharmaceutical skills within a relevant specialty; experience in project management and evidence of completed outcomes; effective liaison with Trust level committees; training and education of pharmacy staff and other health professionals; MDT working.
* Desirable: Leadership and/or management qualifications; relevant postgraduate qualification (MSc or higher); qualified independent prescriber actively used in practice; advanced clinical skills training; experience leading and delivering clinical pharmacy services to a speciality/cluster; published research; line manager/mentor experience.


Communication & Leadership

* Proven ability to influence and negotiate with senior clinicians, managers and stakeholders.
* Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, verbal and written, able to communicate complex drug or medicine related information to diverse audiences.
* Experience of writing business cases or cases of need; addressing large groups.


Analytical & Judgement

* Experience of assessing and minimising risk in service provision and medication processes.
* Making judgement on complex facts, analysis, interpretation and options appraisal.
* Innovative and ‘best practice’ incorporation.

* Promote a learning culture within the organisation.


Salary & Benefits

Band 8b, £64,455 to £74,896 a year pro rata per annum.


Contract

Permanent, Full‑time, Part‑time, Job share.
